Summary of the Job:

This role is responsible for managing the day-to-day responsibilities of the Bank’s Registered Investment Adviser (RIA) to assist business leaders, product owners and project managers with key risk activities throughout discovery, design and implementation for new business initiatives and enhancements. Will work risk backlog based on leadership’s priorities and strategic roadmap and acts as primary quarterback to pull in SMEs as needed. This role is responsible for identifying, analyzing, and addressing regulatory and reputational risk as identified.

Additionally, this role is responsible for conducting key first-line of defense validation on post-implemented initiatives to ensure initiatives and processes comply with applicable laws, regulations, and guidance. Additionally, you will be accountable for ongoing monitoring and reporting. Finally, you will partner with second and third lines of defense on ongoing testing and audits.

About This Role:

  • Understand and maintain knowledge of the laws and regulations applicable to the RIA business strategies, products, services, processes, and third parties.
  • Oversee and coordinate compliance related projects. Steps included in each project may include reading and interpreting new regulatory requirements, developing, and updating project plans, working with impacted business units and risk partners, updating management on project status, and producing summary project summary documentation.
  • Assist business in enacting risk decisions, bring in SMEs as needed and have the ability to make 80% of the decisions related to first line business risk.
  • Design, implement and execute controls (directive, preventative, detective) to ensure compliance with SEC regulatory requirements to support change management, innovation, and other process enhancements.
  • Monitor control performance to ensure they are working as intended and actively identify and promptly correct control gaps or weaknesses. Notify management and Compliance of any significant compliance gaps for awareness and/or action.
  • Develop and prioritize corrective action and risk mitigation activities, review with Compliance as appropriate. Resolve compliance issues/events in a timely manner with documentation of remediation and correct action.
  • Take ownership of escalations from Business Unit, exception requests and act, as needed, in the absence of the Business Risk Manager on key risk decisions.
  • Partner with second and third lines to assist in testing questions, clearing observations/findings, research, etc. As directed, serve as communication point for second- and third line.
  • Review testing reports and observations. Understand result implications, draft SMART action plans addressing the root cause to reduce future issues.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required:

  • 3-5+ years’ experience in compliance, risk, internal audit, or regulatory experience in the Registered Investment Adviser (RIA) industry
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to work effectively with others at all levels across the organization
  • Knowledge and understanding of SEC compliance regulations, BSA/ AML, or operational risk requirements
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams
  • Ability to work independently and with senior level business unit managers
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and creative problem-solving techniques
  • Ability to articulate complex concepts in a clear manner

Desired:

  • Mutual fund sub-adviser experience
  • OCC regulatory knowledge
