About The Role
As a Senior Assistant General Counsel/Associate General Counsel - Employment (EMEA), you will be responsible for working with the Deputy General Counsel – Employment on all employment issues pertaining to the firm’s attorneys and business professionals in our European, Middle East, and Asia (EMEA) offices. Other key responsibilities include:
- Serving as a knowledge expert on workplace trends, novel employment law matters and employment legislation in the jurisdictions in which the firm operates in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia to ensure the firm is compliant and competitive in the industry; requiring ongoing extensive expertise of relevant local employment laws in the UK and a working knowledge of relevant local employment laws in the other jurisdictions in EMEA.
- Independently and proactively providing guidance on range of employment law matters in EMEA while ensuring the Deputy General Counsel – Employment is apprised and aligned.
- Serving as a health and safety legal advisor for the firm, including, but not limited to, advising Firm Administration, Firm Operations / Workplace Experience, Global Benefits & Well-Being, and Global Security & Risk Management.
- Spearheading process changes necessitated by local employment legislation and caselaw (e.g., HR policy and process modifications, amendments to templates and forms).
- Providing guidance on thorny and novel employment law matters and coordinate with OGC colleagues in relation to regulatory issues including the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
Join our team if you:
- Have a broad knowledge of employment laws/regulations in the UK and a familiarity of and desire to learn employment laws/regulations in the countries in EMEA in which we have offices.
- Exhibit the ability to successfully interface with, and build the trust of, firm leaders.
- Possess the ability to lead cross-departmental projects.
- Qualified as a solicitor, barrister or equivalent foreign lawyer with an unfettered right to practice in their home jurisdiction.
- Legal experience with employment law advice and counselling, as well as employment law litigation
- Prior experience as an in-house employment lawyer.
- Prior experience as a revenue-side employment lawyer at a peer law firm.
