About The Role
Tactical Opportunities is a new concept for the legal industry, blending financial and market investment research with internal firm strategy to identify industry shifts and market dislocations culminating in new business opportunities for the Firm and its clients.
Team members have prior experience in investment banking, equity research, management consulting and the legal industry, at industry-leading institutions. With this blend of skillsets analyzing a range of asset classes, sectors and jurisdictions, the team provides strategic direction to the Firm on positioning into market shifts, as well as targeted market intelligence that they present, alongside our lawyers, to current and prospective clients.
Recent areas of team focus include identifying pandemic-driven risks and recovery opportunities across a wide range of industries; active US election coverage and policy implications for global trade, Big Tech, energy and infrastructure; and monitoring geopolitical risks across global financial centers.
The team presents actively to global clients: from investment funds, including PE, Special Situations & Private Credit fund managers, to Corporates and State Enterprises, across the firm’s platform (US, UK, Europe and Asia).
Responsibilities & Qualifications
The analyst’s responsibilities will include:
Excellent quantitative and strong presentation skills are important to us along with the ability to demonstrate gravitas in front of senior management, partners and clients.
While this position will be located in London, there will be occasional travel to other offices and clients across the Latham global network.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or higher from a leading global institution, preferably with a finance or economics component. Experience in the legal industry is not a requirement.
Experience: Preference for candidates with analytical experience from professional services backgrounds (e.g. financial institutions, consulting or top-tier accounting).

- Identification of market developments & dislocations; contributing to thematic brainstorming
- Formulating views on potential commercial opportunities and risks for the clients and the firm
- Tailoring research and analysis of data-sets to produce client-ready presentations and disseminating them to internal and external clients.
