Job Description Summary:
PayPal UK is seeking a dynamic, innovative, and driven Risk Lead to join our high-performing UK Risk and Compliance team, reporting to the Head of Risk and Compliance. The role is critical in enabling the sustainable growth of PayPal’s business in the UK, which offers payment solutions, financial services including credit products to its consumers and merchants in those markets. It will focus on ensuring regulatory compliance along with the enhancement and implementation of the Risk framework.

Job Description:
  • Lead the SLOD oversight on all non-financial risk, financial risk and broader enterprise risk matters for PayPal’s business in the UK.
  • Embed PayPal’s ERM framework for the business in the UK including the risk appetite, KRI, annual risk assessments etc.
  • Engage with the FLOD Business, Risk and Compliance Leads (BRCLs) to ensure that risks are properly identified, assessed, managed and controlled within the Bank’s Risk Appetite.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with the BRCLs and the broader FLOD across all businesses.
  • Provide expertise / input on enterprise-wide risk management in the context of risk frameworks, governance, management and measurement, stress testing, strategy, and regulatory expectations.
  • As the Risk SME collaborate with the PayPal globally, on designing the UK specific framework.
  • Provide the second line oversight on the safeguarding processes
  • Collaborate with global and PayPal Europe stakeholders on the development and coordination of enterprise risk transformation offerings.
  • Leads the delivery of thematic risk reviews and other risk-insight initiatives; Leads the facilitation of risk assessments to support major decision making.
  • Supports the Head of Risk and Compliance in developing annual objectives for the Risk function, working collaboratively with all members of the risk team.
  • Responds to ad-hoc risk queries from the business and leadership teams
  • Identify control improvements required for PayPal’s business in the UK to operate within defined impact tolerances when, not if, severe but plausible disruptions occur.
  • Lead the SLOD responsibilities for risk activities such as risk and control self-assessments (RCSA’s), risk reporting, overseeing key risk indicators (KRI’s), risk incident management, and much more.
  • Leading regular risk reporting for the Risk Management Committee and sub-committees
  • Supporting the management of key governance processes within the organisation and providing support to Risk Governance committees
  • Provide the SLOD oversight of the PayPal’s Crypto produces and services in the UK.


Basic Qualifications
  • 10+ years in the financial industry with proven experience in Risk leadership roles for regulated financial services firms (large banks, payments institutions).
  • Significant experience with the UK and European regulators and the regulatory exam process in a financial institution.
  • Extensive knowledge of FCA credit requirements plus appreciation of broader European credit regulatory landscape.
  • Personal confidence and humility. Gravitas and outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, applicable at all levels of PayPal. Adept at building internal as well as external network.
  • High personal resilience a self-starter with energy and drive for results. A high degree of self-motivation is a given.
  • Degree level education.
  • Excellent English communication and written skills.
  • Experience in partnering with and counseling senior business clients, particularly in the context of a rapidly changing and growth-oriented environment.
  • Strong problem solving, operational process and analytical skills.
  • High energy and creativity, an entrepreneurial spirit, and the desire to work in a fast growth and changing environment
  • Ability to work within a matrix environment and cross functionally with commercial, operations and technology functions
  • Experience in working in close partnership with commercial & product owners to develop pragmatic solutions to internal and external stakeholder requirements.
  • Strong project management skills and change management experience.
