Steptoe & Johnson LLP, a Washington, DC-based Am Law 100 law firm, is seeking a Financial Analyst to join its Accounting & Finance Department. The Financial Analyst will provide Financial Analysis, Planning, and Management Reporting of key performance indicators with a supporting role in developing firm expense budget. This role will act as Liaison with office/department heads to manage and forecast expenses throughout the year, and will also respond to financial and statistical surveys.

Essential Functions
  • Update and send out monthly reports. Prepare the annual operating budget, which includes 12 month projections of headcount, revenue and operating expense by office and department. Input and manage data in the firm’s web-based budgeting tool
  • Develop quarterly forecasts to allow the firm to more accurately project end of year profitability and cash flow; Provide ad-hoc analysis where required
  • Compile data, prepare supporting schedules and compute statistics for annual and quarterly surveys such as Citi, Wells Fargo, etc. Provide analysis of firm vs. peer results to Management
  • Manage ongoing work and requests from various departments and provide in depth analysis where needed
  • Utilize databases and software applications to effectively, timely and accurately provide data, reports and metrics

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics or Accounting
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in financial analyses and/or a related field
Success Factors
  • Understanding of financial concepts, statements and analysis
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Expertise in Excel modeling, pivot tables, and vlookups required
  • Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate in person, by e-mail and telephone and follow instruction effectively from a diverse group of attorneys, managers and staff and to provide information with ordinary courtesy and tact
  • Experience with handling large datasets and maturity to handle highly confidential data
  • Ability to organize and prioritize numerous assignments and complete them under time constraints
  • Positive disposition and willingness to take initiative and follow through on projects and assignments
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Work may require more than 37.5 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position
Work Environment

  • Must be available to work beyond regular days and hours
  • Must be able to work under tight deadlines and in stressful situations
  • Available to work 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and available for some evening and/or weekend hours
  • Must be able to comply with all safety requirements in our workplace, which may include provision of proof of full vaccination for COVID-19 and adherence to other safety protocols implemented
The anticipated base salary for this position is $90,000 - $100,000. The actual base salary offered will be dependent upon the applicant’s experience and qualifications, as well as other job-related factors, including but not limited to, relevant skills, education, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, geographic location.
