Steptoe & Johnson LLP, a Washington, DC-based Am Law 100 law firm, is seeking a Senior Manager of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. This role, based in DC, will be responsible for supporting and implementing the firm’s DEI programs and initiatives, firm-wide, also serving in a strategic advisory role to the firm’s Diversity Committee, Affinity Groups, Women’s Forum, and firm leadership.

Essential Functions
  • Interface with firm committees and task forces to enhance the firm’s DEI efforts
  • Create and implement firm-wide DEI-related training programs
  • Coordinate events and programming, firm-wide, related to DEI awareness, e.g. Lunch & Learns, virtual history tours, speaker series
  • Identify opportunities for the firm to increase external profile, such as networking events, diverse student group sponsorships, seminars, conferences, participation in miscellaneous surveys
  • Manage client-related DEI requests and initiatives and prepare RFP/client-pitch resources, including PowerPoint presentations and Diversity one-sheets
  • Participate in Diversity Committee meetings, including drafting meeting agendas, leading participant discussions, and recording meeting minutes
  • Manage Diversity budget and expenses
  • Prepare both external and internal communications, including the firm’s Diversity & Community Newsletters, holiday announcements, etc.
  • Draft web-based DEI-related content, including for the firm Intranet and Steptoe website. Manage designated Diversity main page on the Intranet
  • Partner with Legal Recruiting, Talent Acquisition, and HR Operations teams to monitor recruitment, integration, retention, mentoring, and promotion of diverse lawyers and business services professionals
  • Create, review, and analyze demographic reports, to include, at client request, the tracking and collection of demographic data for lawyers in all offices
  • Work closely with Legal Recruiting team to develop law student and lawyer pipeline programs, to include providing significant support to the firm’s Summer Associate Program and Pre-Law Fellows Program
  • Ensure firm’s compliance to both maintain, and grow, list of certifications, such as Mansfield and HRC
  • Act in an advisory capacity to various committees, lawyers, and firm leadership regarding DEI-related policies and procedures
  • Track and promote related firm rankings, certifications, awards, and recognitions
Non-Essential Functions

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 5+ years of related experience required
  • 2+ years’ supervisory/managerial experience
  • Must have substantive knowledge of the legal industry, prior law firm experience preferred
