Steptoe & Johnson LLP, a Washington, DC-based Am Law 100 law firm, is seeking a Director of Financial Planning & Analysis to join either the Washington, DC or New York office. This role is responsible for the strategic analysis of firm financial data, providing analysis and commentary to support key firm business decisions. The primary responsibilities include budgeting and forecasting, financial planning, strategic business assessments, management reporting, and budget and performance analysis.

Essential Functions
- Strategize, develop, and implement new technology solutions to streamline financial reporting and analysis.
- Develop a robust financial analysis package for firm executive leadership. Identify Key Performance Indicators that will improve overall firm financial performance. Provide strategic guidance on firm financial decisions.
- Assist in acquisitions of other firms and lateral attorneys.
- Oversee the firm’s internal profitability calculations and forecasting.
- Support firm management in their evaluation of attorney performance for promotion and contract renewals.
- Oversees budget and performance variance analysis to provide detailed insight and recommendations on firm, practice group, office, and internal function financial performance, focusing on trends and analyzing variances. Oversees the preparation of monthly financial reporting package for Firm Management and the Executive Committee.
- Coordinates personnel matters with People Operations, including recruiting and hiring employees, onboarding, professional development and training, designation of work assignments, review of performance plans, and implementation of performance evaluations.
- Supports the firm’s chief executives and other budget holders in reviewing their actuals against budget and preparing forward looking forecasts. Ensures expenses are coded correctly in the firm’s general ledger.
- Assists with the annual audit as requested. Prepares variance to budget and other analytical reviews for annual audit.
- Responsible for completing and submitting Firm surveys to key industry publications, banking partners, and any other ad hoc (e.g., Government) surveys.
- Manages staff responsible for performing financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
- A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business-related field.
- A minimum of seven to ten years of experience in Financial Planning and Analysis, with a minimum of three years management experience.
- Experience designing and implementing team structures and business processes to ensure efficient operations.
- Experience building and maintaining financial planning, analysis, reporting and forecasting models.
- An advanced degree or certification (MBA, CPA, or CFA) is preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Adept at handling concurrent projects and competing priorities in a high-volume, fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.
- Ability to maintain and discuss confidential and sensitive information.
- Demonstrated ability to drive innovation and change.
- Strong management, organizational and interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively interface with and build strong working relationships with firm leadership, attorneys and administrative staff.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to think critically in a pressure-filled and fast paced environment
