Public Affairs Internship Program is designed to expose participants to a Public Affairs team so they can develop professional expertise in building trust, brand reputation, and positive business results for an American multinational financial services company.

Participants will have the opportunity to gain experience and develop industry best practices by supporting business function priorities. Through this program, participants will take on the day-to-day responsibilities of a Public Affairs Analyst, expand their network, and grow their portfolio.

Program Overview:

Over the course of 10 weeks, you can expect the following:

  • On-the-job experience: Working independently as well as part of a high-performing team while having an end-to-end ownership of a distinct deliverable that has a direct impact on business and/or enterprise.

  • Professional support: You will be matched with a business peer who will help you navigate and enjoy our internship as well as answer your day-to-day questions. Additionally, a senior manager will help you navigate through challenging situations, and give you feedback throughout the course of the summer.

  • A speaker series (virtual and/or in-person): Wells Fargo’s top leaders provide insight into how to make the most of your summer experience, share their career paths, tips, and advice, while also sharing trends in the financial and functional spaces they serve.

  • Organization networking activities: We promote community involvement and networking with other summer interns and full-time analysts. You will have the opportunity to create lasting professional relationships, build your network, and take advantage of a diverse and rapidly growing workforce.

  • Internship Duration: 10 Weeks (June-August 2023)

Following the internship, successful candidates may have the opportunity to join the team as part of a Public Affairs Talent Development Program which will enable you to spend 12 months on structured assignments aligned to a particular line of business, benefit from well-designed training and gain deeper subject knowledge. The program serves as a pipeline for development of the public affairs leaders and enables meaningful career advancement within Public Affairs teams and/or business teams within Wells Fargo.

In this role you will: Work closely with Wells Fargo’s top executives and provide strategic advice, subject matter expertise, and innovative solutions to Wells Fargo businesses. For a duration of the program, your project will contribute towards the overall strategy of business priorities, help develop execution roadmap to help businesses execute on Wells Fargo’s top strategic priorities. As an intern, you can expect to:

  • Participate in the development, design, and execution of business priorities for a Communications, Marketing or Meeting & Events team

  • Support integrated communication and marketing strategies that are rooted in the goals of the business

  • Enhance business performance of brand and communication strategies to drive engagement

  • Leverage the power of social and help develop influencer strategies

  • Identify, gather, and analyze appropriate data and develop initial insights that inform strategic recommendations

  • Provide production support or serving as a liaison to business partners

  • Develop presentations and other documents for senior management independently and in partnership with other team members

  • Evaluate strategic options and develop recommendations for feature enhancements

  • Partner and collaborate with colleagues across the Public Affairs organization

  • Analyze data to develop an innovative way to bring Public Affairs’ mission to life and to measure your plan’s success

  • Build new partner relationships while seeking feedback, creating alignment, and proactively addressing risks

  • Build business acumen while strengthening your skills

Ideal candidate for this role must have the following:

  • Energetic self-starter who proactively takes initiative, remains curious and has a genuine interest in learning and growth

  • Strategic, “outside the box” thinking and the ability and interest to ramp up on unfamiliar topic quickly and effectively

  • Proactive, intellectually curious with the ability to take on an elevated level of responsibility, initiative, and accountability

  • Attention to detail and ability to navigate ambiguity

Required Qualifications:

  • 6+ months of work experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

Desired Qualifications:

  • Must be currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree with an expected graduation between December 2024 – May/June 2025

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Intermediate Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) skills

  • Involvement in extracurricular enrichment activities through one or more of the following: volunteerism, student organization involvement, study abroad program(s), leadership position(s), non-profit involvement

  • Demonstrated knowledge, interest and/or experience in financial services, strategy, and fintech, analytical skills and interest in identifying, collecting, and strategically analyzing information and data, helping drive insights and interest in developing strategic recommendations

  • BA/BS degree candidate with a major concentration in: Communications, Public Relations, Journalism and Media Studies, Business, Marketing, or related majors. All majors are welcome.
