The World Food Programme (WFP) is the world’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide, working in more than 80 countries. It is well known for its ability to deliver food assistance rapidly to people in need. In 2020, WFP received the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize award for “...its efforts to combat hunger, for its contribution to bettering conditions for peace in conflict-affected areas and for acting as a driving force in efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war".
In the Philippines, WFP focuses on crisis response and resilience building. Going forward, WFP’s pillar on crisis response in the Country Strategic Plan (CSP) 2024-2028 emphasizes the organization’s objective in enabling digital solutions to the Government’s emergency preparedness and response operations. This objective is framed within the context of the Philippines being one of the world’s most disaster-prone countries and the recognition that disasters remain a leading cause of hunger, affecting all aspects of food security: economic and physical access to food, availability and stability of supplies, and nutrition.
